Standing Out From The Crowd – Chip Thompson Design in Omaha, NE

Omaha-Cover-Best-Dressed-2013Chip Thompson is passionate about two things: design and his clients. The company’s tagline “We Build Rockstars” is the best way Chip summarizes what his company, Chip Thompson Design, does for his design clients.

“Over the past 7 years,” Chip commented, “We’ve had the pleasure of working with many amazing business owners–both in Omaha and nationally. Whether we are helping them craft their identity (logo, tagline, marketing message), building an engaging online website presence, or developing a kick-awesome marketing campaign, our approach is always founded on maximizing impact and soliciting a desired response–marketing-driven, goal-driven design. We want our clients to stand out from the crowd, to be heard over all the distraction and noise we find in today’s marketplace…to be Rockstars.”

Chip Thompson Design recently made some changes, what were they?

The biggest change is our location. A couple months ago, we moved into a brand new studio–and we love it! We are just south of Pier One Imports on 74th and Dodge in a two-story professional building. We are so excited about the space! It’s a great central location for clients, and allows us the space to expand into the future.

A second significant change for us is the addition of a video studio in the new space. We’ve wanted to add client testimonial videos to our offering for years. Now we have a dedicated space that allows us to shoot those videos efficiently and affordably for our clients. In the future, we have plans to develop a series of educational/training videos as well.

Lastly, we changed our brand identity. I’ve never been happy with our logo (until now). I’ve always wanted a brand-mark that made a statement, that captured our personality and passion…but for a designer, creating for others comes much more naturally than doing work for yourself as we’re too close to it (and we’re our own worst critics). It’s taken 7 years, but I think I finally nailed it. Thankfully…clients don’t have to wait that long!

What do you like about doing business in Omaha?

Omaha has an incredible heritage of entrepreneurship–people that have big dreams and ambitions, and make them happen. As someone that took the risk to start my own business, I appreciate having an environment that promotes and supports people that take that leap of faith.

I also like how connected everyone is within the business community. We’ve worked hard to earn client referrals…this is how we’ve built our business. I think Omaha recognizes great work and freely connects people that have the same drive, skill and passion. Omaha recognizes that success is built by helping others to succeed.

Always! I enjoy finding new ways to provide value to our clients. And it allows me to experiment with new techniques and technologies. Right now, we’re working on a couple new products that we’re super excited about: PageChips and Card-Agains.

PageChips is a website development offering for clients that may not have the budget to do a full, robust website. It will still feature custom design and full content management capability, but at a lower price-point. Plus it allows them to expand easily in the future as they grow their business.

Card-Agains is an innovative new way to introduce your company. It’s unique and I believe will be very well received in the market. We’re just finalizing details…so more on that later.

What changes do you see happening in the industry?

Mobile and content. There has been a shift in technology and the way customers engage themselves with businesses online. In a world of iDevices, consumers are largely conducting online searches via a mobile (or tablet) device. This requires a different approach in the way we design/deliver website content, and what format the content is provided in. There is a tremendous amount of information out there competing for our attention. Finding the right balance between the amount of words on a webpage and the more interactive ways of engaging a client (like video) in an ongoing effort is what’s going to be key in future marketing communication.

What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours?

The way we partner with our clients, the way we take an active role in growing their businesses. We truly, deeply care about them–most of them we consider close friends–and that relationship makes it very easy to do great things for them.
